FED: Aust diplomat to front Indon parliament over Papuans
SYDNEY, April 11 AAP - Australia's ambassador to Indonesia will be called before Indonesia's
parliament to answer questions over Australia's granting of visas to 42 Papuans.
Bill Farmer is expected to front the foreign affairs and defence committee next week,
said deputy chairman Effendy Choiri.
"We want to hear from the Australian ambassador why Australia conducts double-standard
policy with Indonesia," Mr Choiri told The Australian Financial Review.
"We want to hear Australia's serious commitment to support the integrity of Indonesia again."
"We also want to know about what kind of friendship, bilateral relationship there will
be between Indonesia and Australia in the future," he said.
Indonesia's ambassador to Australia Hamzah Thayeb and Indonesian foreign minister Hassan
Wirajuda will face the committee at the same time.
Mr Thayeb was recalled from Canberra in the days following the decision, and is yet to return.
