Vic: Alcohol/speed possible factors in speedboat death
Police are hoping to question the 16 year old driver of a speedboat at his hospital
bed after he was involved in a fatal accident early this morning.
An 18 year old North Ringwood woman died when the boat smashed into a tree sticking
out of the water in Lake Eildon .. north-east of Melbourne .. about 1.30am (AEDT).
The young woman was thrown into the water on impact and disappeared .. and her body
was found a short time later.
Sergeant STEVE MCRAE of Eildon Police says the woman suffered head and chest injuries
and is believed to have died as a result of her injuries .. not drowning.
Police believe alcohol and speed may have contributed to the death.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Maroondah Hospital with a suspected
broken arm.
