Fed: Publicity forces airlines to change on DVT

MELBOURNE, Jan 12 AAP - Twenty-five years after doctors first noted a link between
potentially fatal blood clots and long-distance flying, airlines have agreed to warn passengers
about the risk.
Vascular surgeons first recognised a link between air travel and deep-vein thrombosis
(DVT) -- the formation of the potentially fatal blood clots in the legs -- in the 1970s.
Reports appeared sporadically until October last year when the death of a British Olympian
grabbed the media's attention.
