Vic: Figures show time is right for move to country Vic: Brumby

MELBOURNE, April 12 AAP - Melburnians are being urged to move to provincial Victoria.

Releasing new figures today which show more than $3.26 billion worth of investment
in provincial Victoria over the past four and a half years, State and Regional Development
Minister John Brumby said Melburnians should consider a move to the country.

He said the figures showed there had been 218 new investments outside Melbourne between
October 1999 and March 2004, creating more than 7,400 new jobs.

"With recent research showing over 600,000 Melburnians would consider shifting to provincial
Victoria if the circumstances were right, the clear message from today's figures is that
the circumstances have never been better," he said.

"With low unemployment, steady population growth, record high building activity, and
revitalised regional centres, the climate is right for big and small businesses to invest
in provincial Victoria."
